Muhammad and Jesus

No two men in history have had a more profound effect on history, everyday life, and our mentalities than two individuals. These two men were the reason others faced bleak circumstances with great hope. In their name, men have done amazing things, and on the contrary some of the worlds most vicious and barbaric acts. These men ignited people’s souls to catch on fire, and have also ignited people’s bodies to die from fire in war. These two men have amazingly spawned people to live for their beliefs, and to even be willing to die for their beliefs. These men promised paradise, and promised peace. But, as similar as these men appear to be, and in some ways are, are also in fact two different individuals. Christians worship one of these men, and the other is known to be the founder of Islam. These two men are Muhammad and Jesus.

Both of these men are known to be the leaders of their respective religions. They are revered for their amazing lives on Earth, and are made out to be the perfect example of how to live one’s life. But, their religions regard them as two different entities. Muslims regard Muhammad as a man and the best prophet that ever lived. Jesus on the other hand is believed to the Son of the Christian God. Now, w

Another difference between Muhammad and Jesus is that Muslims believe Muhammad is a prophet and only a man, while Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of the God that lived on earth as a man. Muslims believed that Muhammad is the final prophet to be sent to mankind. In the Koran Allah states that “Muhammad is not the father of any one of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets” (Sura 33). At the age of 40, Muhammad received his first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel. This revelation, which continued for twenty-three years, is known as the Koran. As soon as he began to recite the words he heard from Gabriel, and to preach what God had revealed to him, he and his small group of followers suffered bitter persecution, which grew so fierce that in the year 622 God gave them the command to emigrate. This migration from Mecca to Medina marks the beginning of the Muslim calendar. Christians, on the other hand believe Jesus, to be the Son of God. Jesus was believed to be born of a virgin, so Christians assert that therefore He is the Son of God. Jesus also even claimed that he was the Son of God. "If I am not acting as my Father would, do not believe me. But if I am, accept the evidence of my deeds, even if you do not believe me, so that you may recognize and know that the Father is in me, and I in the Father" (John 10:37). Throughout the bible there were also some instances where Jesus was declared to be the Son of God. In Jesus’ Baptism, God's voice from heaven proclaimed, “This is my Son, whom I love." (Matthew 3:17)

Jesus, on the other hand appeared to have never married nor had sex with any woman. There is no New Testament record about Jesus having a love interest, marriage, or children. It is only speculated that he was celibate and it is not known for a fact. Christians believe that Jesus was sent down to heaven to provide us salvation for our sins, but there was also another reason. Jesus became a man incarnate to experience the things that humans experience to be sort of a high priest. When people pray to God and ask him for guidance, since he lived as a human, he will know how we feel and will understand the extent of our worries. If Jesus wanted to experience everything humans experience, why did he not marry and have sex? If Jesus was not married, then he could not have sex because that would be sinful. But, if Jesus did marry, sex would have been fine.

The usual crucifixion began with the victim being whipped and severely beaten. He was then forced to carry or drag the crossbeam of the cross to the place of execution, where the upright post was already firmly fixed in the ground. He was then bound or nailed to the crossbeam, which was then raised up and attached to the post. The feet were then nailed to the post. The legs were then often broken with an iron bar.

Muhammad also corrected the mistakes of his companions, but did not specify who made the mistakes. He also showed that he was pleased with something by showing silence or by commending them.

The details of the acts of formal worship, which include prayer, fasting, alms giving and pilgrimage, were all established and explained by the Sunna of the Prophet. Indeed, the Sunna seems to be an extremely significant practice in Islam. Similarly to Islam, Christianity’s sacred book, the Bible, also can be vague and brief on certain topics. When Jesus lived his life he expanded on what the commandments meant, and he even expanded on the laws that Moses gave. He showed his disciples how to pray by reciting “the Lord’s Prayer” to them, and gave his disciples a new and more merciful depiction of God, which was thought of by Jews at the time as omnipotent and wrathful.

Muhammad did not want people to worship him after he died. He even spent the majority of his life preaching that he was only a man and he was not divine. Muhammad saw himself as a sinner, while Jesus continuously preached he was sin
