The purpose of a film trailer is to promote a film and to try and to portray the film genre to a certain audience to try and get them interested. Film trailers target specific audiences through their film genres. The importance of a film genre is that it shows what type of film it is. The genre is established through codes and conventions. Codes and conventions are the accepted way of doing things in a particular genre. An example of a code and convention is in a action film you would have a big muscular ladies man for the main character because a wimpy man wouldn’t look right and the muscular man is a use of a code and convention.

Trailers are important because they promote a film and if there weren’t trailers then the film wouldn’t get promoted and not as many people would come to watch it than it would of if it had been promoted.
