3 remarkable men of the 18th and 19th century
A passage from Jean-Jacques Rousseau A painting from Jacques-Louis David (The Lictors returning to Brutus, the bodies of his sons 1789) A painting from Caspar David Friedrich (Wanderer above the Sea of Fog 1817 1818) I would like to approach the subject of three men of the 18th Century and the 19th Century. There are the similarities in the way that these three men expressed themselves, either in words, or by paintings, making points relating to humanism and to that of nationalism. They were each concerned with human attitudes, relating to political issues, and that man needed a real comprehension between them, as for him this was missing in the middle of the 18th Century, especially with the government and the monarchy constantly in disagreement. Jean-Jacques Rousseau, (1712-1778) was a French philosopher, wanted to discover what the secret would be of a natural happiness for humans, considering gouvernmental controversial issues that led up the violent outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789. Rousseau introduced ‘’The Social Contract’’ of 1789. It suggested a legitimate authority – a single will adopted by e
demanding political action and how he was committed to new ideas and principles of enlightenment, which was his way of encouraging emotional and spiritual responses from the public, as opposed to visual observation, without any foreground barriers in his work, so that the scene can be surveyed beyond. Friedrich was the proponent of romanticism, was stimulated by revolutionary change and being affected by the principles of democracy, with a kind of political heroism focusing on a clearer perspective in his rational spaces, and lastly, there is the Democracy subjective to their own ideals of human existence and nationalism.
