The factors of the expansion of the U.S. can all be attributed in some way to the initial arrogance, the initial confidence in the “God given right” ideal that was Manifest Destiny. Security, Greed and a desire for new land come secondary to the principles contained in Manifest Destiny, without this confidence in themselves and their beliefs the American people would simply not have been able to expand as they did in America. It was their drive and their confidence, their hunger to take something and make it their own, and to protect that thing even if it means taking more, Manifest Destiny is the primary reason behind this drive and the primary reason behind the territorial expansion they achieved in the 1840’s
