Jimi Hendrix, born Johnny Allen Hendrix, was born in Seattle, Washington on the 27th of November 1942. Jimi self-taught himself guitar. Although he was left-handed, he learned on a right-handed guitar. Hendrix enlisted in the 101st Airborne division and met his bassist Billy Cox in the band King Kasuals. His guitar skills amazed all as Jimi played with his teeth, behind his back, on the floor, or even between his legs. Jimi died in London on September 18, 1970 at the age of 27 after choking on his own vomit.Nat Turner was born on October 6, 1800 in Southampton, VA. Turner was best known for stealing weapons so that slaves could be granted freedom, which freed 13 slaves in the long run. When he was caught, he was hung. He died in 1831. Alice Walker’s birthday is February 9th, 1944 and is still alive today. She is noted for her work, The Color Purple. She was blind in one eye. Her first published book of poetry was released in 1968 followed by a novel 2 years post. The Color Purple was released in 1982. Freda McDonald, better known as Josephine Baker, was born in 1906 in St. Louis Missouri. She dropped out of school at the age of only 12. She was a stage and screen performer. Her death is a sweet story, in sorts. She died peacefully in her sleep after a large party was given for her. In August, 1927, Althea Gibson was born in South Carolina. In 1942 she entered and won her first tennis tournament sponsored by the ATA (All-black Tennis Association). In 1956, she won the French Open. She won Wimbledon in ’58. She was 76 when she died. James Earl Jones was born January 17, 1931 in Arkabutla Township, Mississippi. He went to University of Michigan to be a doctor, but was drawn to theater instead. His premiere work was The Blacks. His big screen debut was Dr. Strangelove. He lives in upstate New York. This woman is most recently notable for suing Outkast for using her name in a song. Rosa Parks gave her seat up on the bus on December 1, 1955. She got arrested and fined. She was born on February 4th, 1913. In 1957, she moved to Detroit. Nat Love was born in 1854 as a slave in Tennessee. He died in 1921. He wrote “Deadwood Dick.” He had a good time after the emancipation. He was a cowboy, rodeo rider and an Indian fighter.
