In the novel "In Sunlight in a Beautiful Garden" by Kathleen Cambor we are able to see a class structure composed of two basic groups of people. The "workers" are the lower group. They are made up of mostly steel mill and factory workers. These are often hard working citizens that cherish the town in which they live in. Frank Fallon is a "worker" who is very concerned with the building of the dam. The other social group is the "owners" these are wealthy men who have made their money in different areas whether it is through banking, or rail roads, or other ways. H.C. Frick was an "owner" – "He was a millionaire.". "His business was the manufacturer of coke," (Cambor, 65). There were also those that straddled both of these classes such as Danielle Morrell and James Talbot. It is evident though that one may truly be between classes or it may simply be just a sense of consciousness.

Although many differences coexist within the characters in this novel, there is one factor that is common among most of Jamestown’s’ citizens whether they are an "owner" or a "worker". This is the fact that most of these people have something to hide. They are where they are today because have escaped or hid a secret. This is extremely important to the novel as a whole because it shows that although these people seem so different they are actually very alike.
