The Committed Commitment
Often its is said that music can soothe the soul and diminish one’s problems. Even with this relaxing idea of what music can do when it is played, most people do not consider the effort put forth in making the music. The making of a band and its music is a very painstakingly long task that requires an unbreakable dedication to tackle the problems that must be faced. This dedication was portrayed exceedingly well in the 1991 film “The Commitments” directed by Alan Parker. The film took an in-depth look at what life was like in Dublin, Ireland in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The film takes place in the poverty stricken Northen part of Dublin with its main character being Jimmy Rabbitte. Jimmy is unemployed at that moment in time, but is always entangled in the music business in one way or another. He has decided to create and manage a band that will play soul music. As Jimmy goes through the process of creating his band, he encounters many problems. He has to hold auditions to find the talent to form the band. He must then find the instruments, sound equipment and
