Web design

Web design is one of the fastest growing and most industrious professions in today’s market. Given that web design is a practically new field in which there are not many occupations, there are trends and ideas being added to web pages everyday by prominent webmasters around the world. Whether it is created for recreational reasons, for business purposes, or for practice, the designing of web pages is a remarkable, and in depth process.

From large enterprises, to small industries, independent owners, or someone developing their own personal site, the web has grown to be the easiest way to broadcast information and advertise. Many of today’s webmasters use different approaches in web design. Of the many that are in existence, there are two formats that are universally known: HTML format, and the recently developed Microsoft Front Page. The conventional HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) format deals with what is known electronically as, tags. There are two main parts to a website, the head and the body. They are used to identify changes that are made to the website, whether it may be font color, background color, or font size, tags are used to identify them all. For example, if someone wanted to change the background

“Animation-video, sound, spinning logos, vibrating icons, exploding 3-D graphics, and moving pictures, have become the most ubiquitous on the Internet.” (Wagstaff, 1) One of the most essential parts in designing an effective website, is that it is fast loading. A website can have animated text, pictures, logos, or characters, but if that particular site exceeds more than approximately three minutes to load, then the visitor will not want to continue there or not even come back to the site at all. Large animations also help contribute to a page that does not load.

Probably the most important aspect of an effective website is how often it is updated. The upkeep of the website is an ongoing and never-ending process. Ads for events or banners that contain outdated information, need to be updated or thrown out completely, to keep the visitor wanting to come back to the site. However, before all of this, a web designer must plan before starting on their website. Most skilled designers start first on paper. Usually, a website’s layout is consistent from page to page, which speeds up download time. (Microsoft Office 2000, PF 13-24)

There are many different aspects that go into web design, whether the site is for information, advertising, or entertainment, most web designers want the website to be effective, no matter what the purpose. There are many different things to consider in creating a web page. The most important part of a web page is its home page. “In terms of your website’s basic content, everything mentioned or shown on your home page should somehow direct the visitor to another part of your site.” (Tapley, 52) The home page should attract the visitor’s eye, state exactly what it’s about, get directly to the point, and make the reader want to continue reading. An effective website must be both informative and interesting to make the visitor feel their time is not wasted. If the website is not interesting to the user, the user will not have a reason to come back and check the site. Another important part of an effective website is easy navigation. An effective website usually has links on every page that encourages guests to keep browsing their site. For example on a news site, while it might have one big news story
