Dietz also pointed out Hinckley’s obsession for the movie “Taxi Driver” by stating that Hinckley used the same “devastator” bullets that were used in the movie. This shows that Hinckley put planning into his actions. Hinckley also stated to Dietz: “You know, actually, I accomplished everything I was going for there. Actually, I should feel good because I accomplished everything on a grand scale, I did it for her sake the movie isn’t over yet.” This statement by Hinckley proved that he put planning into his actions and had the substantial capacity to know his actions were wrong.

Dr. Park Dietz led the governments team of psychiatrists. He found that Hinckley suffered from three different types of personality disorders. They also found that Hinckley suffered from “Dysthymic Disorder,” which is a mood of persistent sadness. Despite all of Hinckley’s problems, the prosecution felt none of his problems made him legally irresponsible for his actions.
