39 Washington Bureau chiefs and congressional correspondents. This survey did have overwhelming evidence to the conservative argument that journalists and the public do not share the same views. For example, 89% of polled journalists voted for Bill Clinton in the 1992 election. This number is substantially higher than the 43% of the non-journalist voting public who voted for Clinton. In the same survey, it is pointed out that of those surveyed, 50% said they were Democrats, and only 4% said they were Republicans. The strongest point of this survey was the amount that characterized their political orientation as "liberal" or "moderate to liberal," which was 61%, compared to only 4% who said they were "conservative" or "moderate to conservative." Goldberg summarizes this survey by saying, "In the world of media elites, Democrats outnumber Republicans by twelve to one, and liberals outnumber conservatives by seven to one."

Although my opinion of the media has never been good, my idea of a liberal bias has all but drifted away. I can't help but think that stating there's a liberal bias in the media has become a bias itself. It would be stupid to assume that there's not as much conservative reporting in the media as liberal. After learning about the control that is placed on what is allowed to be covered, and what isn't, I understand the strict policies of media reporting. I highly doubt that a reporter would have the power to go over the head of the boss and put blatant liberalist sways into their stories and reports. No boss I've ever had would allow that. Obviously there is bias in the media, but not to the extent that so many conservative Republicans wine about. Ask Bill O'Reilly if he has a conservative bias on his show. Unfortunately for a lot of Americans, they're unable to identify the bias. They're unable to choose their own views and ideas without being told what to think by the media.
