In these three poems there are evidence that the people in these stories are faced with issues that most people can not deal with. Being faced with the racism that these people had to be two different people at once is hard. It is hard enough being one person and trying to please one culture imagine being of a multi-race and having to worry about pleaseing both cultures. You could never be a “whole” American or a “whole” Mexican you always have to be on guard when you are in two different worlds.

In the poem “Legal Alien” another poem written by Mora, the persona is describing how there is no room for her in either the Mexican community or the American community. As described in the poem “ Bi-lingual. Bi cultural able to slip from “How's life?” to “ Me' Stan voviendoo loca ,(They are driving me crazy.)” (Lines 1,2,3) This is where the persona describes life as both a Mexican and American. There is a prejudice that is somewhat evident in today’s society , you can be both a Mexican and an American but with that hyphen you take on certain Baggage from both cultures.
