Patriotism

Most people around the world are patriotic of their country. After all, they were born there and they live there. Granted, some may not like the leaders of their country, but they still appreciate the country in itself. Americans too feel the same patriotism. American patriotism can be evoked for various reasons, three of which are the American dream, the idea that America is the land of opportunity, and freedom of speech.
The typical thought that runs through one's mind when picturing the American dream is having the interesting, well-paying job, raising the perfect 2.5 children household, and living in a nice house. This has, and will always be, the goal of all Americans. This concept of the "American dream" has been instilled in all generations of Americans since America came to be an independent nation. If one was to ask any teenager where they saw themselves in 20 years, the reply would something to the effect of, "I want to have my own business, live in a big house, and be married with 2 kids." The American dream has been so instilled in the minds of American generations that people fail to reach for higher, harder-to-reach goals in life. This is simply because they do not try; and they do not try because they feel that they have fulfilled theirs ultimate goal in life: the American dream. However, because of the American dream's staying-power through the centuries, it can be assumed that the American dream is a twisted form of patriotism. Simply, because it is so typical and accepted, that it would be almost "unpatriotic" to want to do something else with life. .
America has always been known as the land of opportunity. This is directly why there have always been more immigrants coming to America to live permanently than to any other country. Immigrants from all over the world have come, and are still coming to America to find a better life. In the past, the journey to America was long and dangerous.
