Political Assessment of Lloyd Doggett (D-TX)
The following is based on my research and is my assessment and suggestions concerning the campaign of Honorable Lloyd Doggett, United States House of Representatives, Texas Congressional District 10. Mr. Doggett has been involved in Texas politics for 30 years now. Most recently he has been a member of the United States House of Representatives for 10 years. He is what some would call a career politician, a seasoned veteran of politics if you will. It can be safe to say that Doggett knows his constituents. He knows them not only because of the time that he has spent serving them but also because he holds very similar ideals to theirs. He expresses the views of a vast majority of his constituents. The 10th Congressional District of Texas, which included Austin in much of the surrounding areas, has long been a stronghold of liberal ideas and the Democrat party. Since his election to the Texas Senate in 1973, Doggett has consistently been both a liberal and a Democrat. He serves his constituents well and they praise him for that. Mr. Doggett has had no problem retaining his seat in Congress for the past 10 years. In fact in the 2000 General Election, he won by a land
The congressman is put in a situation in which his future is uncertain. If he chooses to run for Congress again, he will be forced to run in one of 6 new districts that will be considerably less liberal than he is. The far left ideals that he embraces and embodies are not reflective of the general ideals of the moderate majority in Texas. His ultra-liberalism, which has been his greatest strength in the past, will ultimately become his greatest weakness in the coming election. Should the Mr. Doggett chose to run for another term in Congress, he will go up against other incumbents that are better known in the area and likely more moderate. However, it is likely that the congressman will run in on of these 6 districts and the competition is guaranteed to be considerably more aggressive than it has been for him in the past. It will not be an impossible battle, but it will likely be an uphill battle the whole way. Doggett will be forced to fight for a seat, something that he is relatively inexperienced with. Politics remind me of the card game War in which the following things are certain: you will win some rounds and you will lose some rounds, it does not matter who has
