Brave New World

The issue of morality over scientific progression and happiness pertaining to an artificial utopian society is a very controversial one. Some people disagree with the eternal bliss of a utopia because of the belief that ignorance is bliss and, according to Brave New World, there could be no living side by side with happiness and knowledge. Others, however, agree that if it could be acquired in all its glory, a utopian society would be an ideal place to live. Everyone has his own reasons for supporting or objecting to the ideal, tranquil life that is accomplished through Utopia ideals. All members of our group- including Nate Prescott, Julia Mineky, and Allison Schroeder- came to the consensus that we would prefer our society over that which was portrayed in the book Brave New World or Thomas More’s proposition.

In general, Julia would say she agrees with Nate’s perspective on the whole mindless droid issue. Also, she addresses the issue of communism’s flaws and why it would never work in a real society. She says that people would take advantage of the “sharing” situation by taking more than they deserved and acting out. The main reason that communism wouldn’t work is that humans have selfish instincts and they would just use others to try to get a better life. Unless the inhabitants of the society were conditioned as in Brave New World, they would all have an inclination to cheat the system and would need competition to keep them occupied and “in check”. Plus sometimes even the fictitious conditioning didn’t work and there is always room for flaws in a seemingly perfect plan.
