Sustainable development in rainforests essay

It is the tendency throughout many parts of South America to express concern for the loss of beauty, biodiversity and opportunity of the Amazon only after large areas of forest is torn down for human “needs”

The Brazilian government is aiming for 25 percent of dense forests to come under sustainable forest management, a total of nearly 12 million acres (4 million hectares) of an state called Acre

The state will use its buying power to demonstrate its commitment to certified sustained forestry; the government has promised to gradually replace state timber purchases with certified goods from forest areas that are being sustained. And he has replaced old furniture from the governor's official residence with certified pieces and he is replacing state school desks and chairs with certified furniture.

Certification will make Acre's products more appealing to consumers in national and international markets, providing an edge over neighbouring states. And certification is beneficial for Acre's native tribes people. The Antimari Forest supports many communities of indigenous people whose livelihood depends on the sustainability of the forest.

There are plenty of other reasons why we are losing our rain forest land at such an alarming rate, but I'm not here to discuss those reasons. The National Academy of Science estimates that rainforests are being destroyed at the rate of 50 million acres (the size of England, Scotland and Wales combined) per year. Consequently, saving these precious areas has become an urgent environmental cause.

Everyone knows that the rainforest is a wonderful place that must be preserved. No one is going to argue the pro side for
