The right to bear arms

The article that I chose to do was "The Right to Bear Arms" by Warren Burger. One of the main reasons I chose this issue was because one of my close friends was shot and killed at a local party in Arizona, which changed my view on "The Right to Bear Arms." After that misfortune I started to think that we should not be permitted to have weaponry unless we are in the U.S. military. This is a very good article and while it is fairly short and gets right to the point, it does have its flaws.

Because the author served on the United States Supreme Court the author formed obvious antigun views. Burger’s opinion on this subject is evident through his use of shocking handgun murder statistics and in the use of the phrase "mindless homicidal carnage" to describe these murders. The book failed to mention that having a gun is a good thing is the fact that people have the right to carry one. There are a lot of processes that you have to go through to legally own a gun. Someone breaking into your house with a gun might be an affirmative situation to having a concealed weapon. The book forgot to mention the other side to gun control which is really a big aspect in the article.

Last year, Washington, D.C. alone had more than 400 homicides, setting a new record for our capital (Burger 95). You can buy a handgun anywhere on the street for $40, or they give it to you for free if you tell your gang you're on your way to shoot someone. I just don’t see these kinds of things taking part in our "civilized" country, The country that is supposed to be the best organized and the safest country in the world.

book was that there were 9,000 handgun murders in the United States. How do we know the facts they are stating are credible? If they are trustworthy shouldn’t the author at least state where he got the information so the audience won’t be skeptical of the article? The person could just give these facts to make you want to consider the article more; you have to be careful with all these people today in the world and make sure the facts are correct.
