Images, Actions, Objects or Lenses?

In relation to my own study practice (both its reality and my aspirations for it), I have chosen to select images to focus on in my essay.

Images, Actions, Objects or Lenses? From this list it would be obvious to anyone who has seen my work that I would choose 'images' to write about in my essay. My work has always been primarily in images, whether they are my own images or manipulations of other peoples. I don't dislike other ways of working and not too long ago I could have chosen 'actions' and related it to the physical way I work. The way I make a mark on the canvas, the way I draw a line and the energy I put into it. I feel images play a very important role in our modern life styles today; throughout this essay I will be looking to discuss this.

I feel images have resulted in being the backbone of Art today. The very first Art ever to be produced was on the walls of caves by cavemen. From these simple, native drawings and the evolution of man has come the Art we now see and thrive upon today. An image in Art is the traditional form in which it first took place and this is why I feel I have subconsciously chosen to mostly work with this media. I can be like the caveman, unaffected by

For me images play a very important role in my life. Images are everywhere, on TV, in newspapers and on your computer. They are used to manipulate you, pleasure you and inform you. When I work on a painting I aim to capture all three of these important roles an image should give you. I feel this helps towards the final, finished result. If a piece of Art can inform you of some well addressed issue while making it pleasurable it will have succeeded in manipulating you in a positive way.

technology, uninfluenced by teaching methods. When I pick up my pen only the natural occurrence of evolution will have any affect on my work. When I draw with images my work is pure, as pure as someone who draws hundreds of thousands of years ago. From Images in Art have stemmed all the other major media involved today. With the birth of technology especially in the last century Art has taken a huge leap forward in the way it is made and seen. This is all very good for the natural development of Art but experiencing the growth of technology and new ways of making art I have slowly seen imagery slip a little into the background. Traditional Art is becoming a thing of the past. As more and more people try to do something new and bold, as more and more artists try and stretch the technology we have today to create the newest art, hopefully the images of traditional art will filter back into society, as they become the rare and new.

One artist who I feel is great when it comes to imagery is Robert Rauschenburg. His silk-screens to me sum up the word. He uses lots of recognizable imagery in his silkscreen prints and this imagery is very powerful. With bold colours overlaid, one on top of the other, the images he presents you with are beautifully balanced.

The work I am interested in at the moment, as I mentioned earlier is very much to do with imagery. I have recently made quite an apparent change in my style of work. I am focusing on work that is compositionally very minimal. I am trying to develop my work with fewer marks on the page and to concentrate and emphasize these fewer marks to add more tension. The imagery I use is usually picked at random and I will place appropriate text with it. This gives the drawings a strong fresh, urban feel with the text often subjec
