The economist overview
The web site that I have chosen to do my essay on is www.economist.com. This website is an overview of everything that has to do with economics. It is actually a website of a magazine called The Economist. It is broken down into nine different categories; Opinion, World, Business, Finance & Economics, Science and Technology, People, Books & Art, Markets & Data, and Diversions. Each of the proceeding categories have an extensive amount of links to topics within that category. This website however is one you must pay for. All of the information isn’t available unless you pay a subscription fee of either twenty dollars a month or seventy dollars a year. The opinions section is broken down into two sections, Editorials and a section called By Invitation. Both sections have topics you can read, and some you cannot. The ones you can read are long, detailed summaries of a specific topic such as “The Way of the Oil Age”. The article talks about the demand for oil, and how the cost of it is constantly rising. The author says that the oil age will end long before we run out of oil. There are less damaging fuels being introduced and that the change will not be an overnight thing.
The science and technology section covers everything from ways of generating power to telekinesis. This also has a subsection, its called Technology Quarterly. This section deals more with where technology is heading. It reminds me of a popular mechanics magazine. One of the articles in the quarterly is about the evolution of on-board computers on cars. The computers are becoming so advanced that they can monitor all the functions of the car. The computers will be able to find the problem in the early stages before it becomes a big problem. This website is designed for the serious economist who either wants or needs this amount of information. Someone who likes to know what is going on in the world and needs to be informed would love this site, and would most likely be willing to pay the fee for full access. I cannot say that I find use for all of this information. Right now, most of the articles I found interesting, but not necessary. Perhaps when I grow older and wiser, I will find a need for this website to keep me informed about issues that I am concerned with. Until then I will probably just use it as a resource if I need any economic information. Books and Art is a section that deals with books and art about important people in the business world, or topics that affect it. This website reviews some of the books and recommends the ones that it thinks are worth purchasing. This section really didn’t have any art in it. It was primarily a section that talks about books that have plots that are economically based. The next section of the website is called People. This section is concerned with the employees, leaders, and anyone involved in the business world. It even has a section of obituaries to let you know which important icons have passed away. One article talks about the pr
