            In this essay I"m going to analyze the setting of the story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. I"m funded in the story some details that the author provides to give the reader a clear idea of the time, place and circumstances that involved the story. The setting of a story includes the time, place, social and physical environment. These are the most important aspects of the setting. .
             The story "The Lottery" takes place in a small village, and it was a beautiful morning of June 27th. The author provides this information so the reader can situate in time and space. The people of the village are gathering together between the post office and the bank. With that information we can assume that the story takes place outdoor.
             The day was clear and sunny with the fresh warmth of a full summer day. The flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was very green. It was 10:00 o"clock in the morning and the lottery took less than 2 hours. There about three hundred of people in the town participating in the lottery. Every family of the town participates obligatory in the lottery. This was a tradition that they do every year.
             The school of the town was recently over for the summer. The boys and the girls of the town had a feeling of liberty. They were playing, laughing and making jokes. The children were enjoying their vacation and having fun. The girls were gathering together aside talking about themselves and looking over their shoulders at the boys.
             The men of the town were speaking about planting, rain, tractors and taxes. The women were wearing faded house dresses and sweaters. With this information we can see that they were a farming town. The men were farmers whom worked in plantations and the women were housewives whom dedicate to clean the house and raise the children.
             The author presents a lot of information and many details that help the reader understand the story more easily. We can see ourselves as part of the story.
