Consequently, Hamlet’s high-strung, cerebral, magnanimous, and obscene characteristics were the foundation for failure in his quest for revenge. Being neurotic and edgy caused Hamlet to act out of character and make the wrong decisions. Over thinking and trying to rationalize each situation he was presented with caused Hamlet to procrastinate in taking action. Because Hamlet was too great of a person, he was not able to become evil, and felt the desire to almost commit suicide instead of getting over his fears and finally take the plunge. Lastly Hamlet acted distastefully at times, causing him to become mad, and overlook important values such as his mother and his true love, Ophelia. Hamlet’s own personality traits were the causes of his procrastination, and in conclusion let to his downfall, unfortunately death. Because Hamlet put a great deal of time to waste and many lives were lost including his own, we feel that Hamlet did not receive the revenge he was asked of by his father. Though Hamlet did succeed in finally killing the King, he did not fully succeed in his quest for revenge.
