Old Yeller is the coming of age story of a young boy named Travis Coates around the time of 1860. His father goes off on a cattle drive and he instantly becomes the man of the house. This is hard for him because he has to take care of his mother and brother. Trouble happens on the very first day when the family mule nocks the fence down because of a yellow dog. Soon enough Travis’s brother takes the dog in and names him Old Yeller. Pretty much the rest of the movie is Old Yeller and the boys going on adventures till we lead to a pretty crappy ending. Basically Old Yeller gets rabies and they have to put him down.
I laughed, I cried, I even paid money. Old Yeller caused me to do all these things. Already you can tell that Old yeller is a very influential movie. The story of Old Yeller takes place in the Midwest during the ca

I think that besides the whole Disney point of view this movie was pretty good at showing the hardships that some of the families went through during the time of the cattle era. I felt this movie humanized something that I really did not care much about. When you hear about pioneers and settlers sacrificing for their families you do not think about fathers leaving sons in charge of farms and the rest of the family. I did have one big problem with the movie though and that was the ending. Disney was the creator of the happy ending. I liked this false sense of security. If I wanted to see something bad and sad happen I would have watched the news and saved myself the two dollars the movie cost.
I also do not see how this could be a children’s movie. This along with Bambi had to
