“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” (http://www.law.emory.edu/FEDERAL/usconst/amend.html) I feel that this is the most misconstrued piece of historical literature to date. Our founding fathers dedicated their lives to establishing this country upon the acknowledgment of God. The federal government’s decision to separate church and state was never meant to separate God from our government, only to separate government from the church.

Over the years the Supreme Court and lower federal courts have reinterpreted this amendment in many ways. This reinterpretation of the Constitution has in effect become the "law" which supposedly dictates the "separation of church and state." Society needs to understand that the law was originally set forth to keep the government from having any control over the church in the new nation.
