Ethics in Society

It has occured to me , friends, that, as citizens in a free world society, there is an immediately looming nemesis threatening the very mode of our existence, the mode, I may no doubt safely say, which allows us to live in the pursuit of freedom, happiness, and, above all, life itself. This nemesis increases as society ages and as society progresses onward to the ultimate Valhalla of existence, the existence in which everyman is given equal tools of construction with which he builds a life and by a life, friends, I mean a significant life, one that will endure beyond his own existence, carrying his children on to even greater hieghts than himself. This nemesis comes in the poorly-disguised cloak of motor vehicle operation.

By a vast majority, we must all agree that there are far too many asinine motor vehicle operators in this great land called America, causing subsequently far too much pain and mortal heartache among intelligent, socially responsible operators, whom, I can blessedly say, are composed of most of my fellow citizens. But, gentle reader, we must surely not believe that since the percentage of asinine drivers is quite small that we can safely ignore them, for Satan's infinite legions are behind every thorn

The first component of my solution calls for the creation of a special police force to patrol the highways with the sole mission of finding perpetrators and apprehending them. This police force would be named the "Buick Police," namely because the majority of the offenders drive Buick automobiles. When I say "Buick," I mean this to include drivers of Oldsmobiles, Cadillacs, and Lincolns, because they are most assuredly among the offenders as well. The Buik Police would , upon apprehending the misguided perpetrator, issue a traffic ticket with a fine of ten thousand dollars, with driving privileges suspended for twenty-three months (oh, that a mere few thousand dollars would atone for the pain and grief resulting from an errant driver's actions!). The second part of my humble solution consists of having cowcatchers (yes, like the one's on the great steeds of the rails!) installed on the forward section of a considerate driver's automobile, thus allowing the considerate driver the justifiable option of merely nudging the slow, hazardous driver out of the way.

, no matter how small, in the flesh of a holy society!

This abominable problem occurs everywhere and affects every avenue of life and every winding lane of moral existence. I will present for you, comrades but a couple of scenarios which illustrate this foul odor of which I speak, this foul odor that rises from the primordial slime of a society's errant roots, disguising itself, gazing through the eyes of Babylon.

Why, we might ask, does this atrocity of the modern era occur? Oh, kind fellows,
