Learning with students

There are a lot of view points and arguments about “Should student’s be rewarded for learning. The first thing you need to do is understand learning itself. When you first think of learning you first response is studying and homework. Many points and other people think that there are some points and counterpoints to students being rewarded and students not being rewarded for learning. Teachers have many problems to deal with trying to figure how and when to reward students. Teachers don’t want to cause conflict between the students. By having programs that reward the students eliminate having problems between the students. They don’t have many conflicts with the other students in the class.

The thing that needs to be understood is that learning isn’t just school. It is something we learn everyday of our lives. The learning varies in age from a baby learning how to walk, teenagers learning how to drive, and adults learning how to cope with everyday situations. People don’t understand that you learn something new everyday from the people around you. The reasons why students should be rewarded is because when rewarding yourself for a job well done can lead to higher levels of performance. If you yourself is

I myself had always got money if I did good on my report card, but the older I got my parents expected me to do good without being rewarded. They always said that it was for my own good, that it will always pay off in the end. By paying off in the end, she means when I graduate from college, by working hard in the beginning I will be able to go out and get a good paying job. Another parent took it in her own perspective to reward her child in a similar way. “Christina Vargas earned straight A’s in the last quarter of sixth grade, so her parents would always take her to Panama”. They expect to earn cash and even sometimes gifts. “Sometimes offering awards for grades might not spur success in every

student, and some experts are even against the thought of doing it”. (LaBelle, 2003).

the classroom and the students could exchange the tokens for a reward. They could exchange the tokens in there home and get rewarded from their home. One question that might cross many parents mind is “should teachers make a practice of praising students who do good work“? Many people think that the teachers should be the motivator for the students, by rewarding them with prizes or greater privileges. Rather than criticizing unwanted behavior or answers, reward correct behavior and answers. The rewards should be small and not large, because if they are small they will think that they will have to accomplish more to get a bigger reward.

When considering using award schemes you need to be very careful when doing so, because they can act as motivators for the young students and they can also provide a means of acknowledging the work the students do.
