It was dinner time at the Lincoln house, and Booth was now arriving at Ford’s Theatre. He bought drinks for all the present actors to essentially lure them out of the theatre so he can do a final examination and get prepared for the assassination that was to come later in the night. He realized the doors did not lock and put a wood board by the door so nobody could enter from that way, and he also made a little hole in the door so he could see where the President was when he was seated. He did all this and was very careful to get rid of all the evidence. When the Presidential Box was checked before the show everything seemed to be perfect. The doors opened at 6:45 pm and the people began entering.

Booth’s crime was completed April 15, 1865, at the time of 7:22:10 a.m. It was the worst crime of the era. Lincoln’s favorite child, tad, woke up and the first thing that came out of his mouth was “Mr. Welles, who killed my father?”
