On the Inside.( Its a review of the movie the MASK from 1980

When you hear the title of a movie called “The Mask” what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Some people might say Jim Carey since he stared in a comedy movie in the 90’s called “Mask” or some other people might say something about a disguise that maybe the Indians wore during sacred rituals. Well if you said either of these you are wrong. This movie does not have Jim Carey in it, but it does have the star singer Cher and it is not about a disguise that Indians wore during their sacred rituals.

Through out this whole movie there are a lot of different things that happen that help you understand the meaning of the movie. They don’t come out and make these things noticeable you just have to watch for them. When you see them it helps you understand a little bit more the true meaning of the film.

To me this movie is about a lot more then just someone whose face isn’t normal and doesn’t look like anyone else’s. This movie was made to show people, how are society labels someone before we even get to know them.

In the first couple scenes they make it very noticeable on how people were labeling Rocky before they even got to know him. The principal didn’t want to give him a chance at a

After Rocky proved himself to the school and too all of his classmates he had a bigger obstacle to over come. It was the obstacle of trying to impress some girls so he could get a girlfriend. So he went home and talked to his mom (Rusty) about this and talked about how he wanted to talk to another plastic surgeon to see if they could help fix his face at all. So Rusty sat him down and explained to him that since there wasn’t any plastic surgeon that could help him at all the he needed to focus a lot more on what is inside and not what is on the outside. So then if what is inside of a person counts then what we have on the outside is our “Mask”.

The day they left from camp Rocky finally got to meet Diana’s parents and they didn’t give Rocky a chance. They judged him for what was on the outside and not what he had on the outside. That shows that peoples perceptions of a person can often interfere with another persons perception on someone.

In today’s society people really do not look at someone and see what they are like on the inside. More people will judge someone on how their appearance or their “Mask” looks. So knowing that, people will go out and spend a lot of money on material items just to make their outward appearance look that much better. When they do this all they are really doing is covering up who they really are. For example, what kind of clothes they wear, how much makeup they put on, t
