Women of Ancient Egypt in Comparison to the Women of Today

The Egyptian women lived hundreds of years ago and since then many things have changed including their innovations, attire, and lifestyle. Every single aspect of their lives was lived far more differently than the way Canadian women live today. Despite these differences, the economical, social, and political roles of women in Ancient Egypt are closely related to that of women living in Canada today and have not changed a great deal since the past.

In Ancient Egypt women in society were socially accepted and fairly equal to men. However, in comparison to women of today they were less involved and were less equal. The social role of the women of Ancient Egypt was to primarily bear children and raise them. This is similarly seen in today’s world. Women are still encouraged to bear children and are usually the ones who take an absence of leave from work to also raise them. Women in Egypt were also given many opportunities for social mobility; they could exceed and rise in social class through their career choice. However, they needed an education for this and most of them only had a limited amount. In Canadian society today all women are given an equal chance to exceed in school. Furthermore social rankings and class isn’t as p

The role of women in Ancient Egypt in their economy was in some aspects more equal in comparison to man than in today’s society. However, Canadian society today offers more opportunity and than in Egypt. Women in Egypt were primarily responsible for assisting their husband in whatever job they had. For example if their husband were a carpenter than they would learn some aspects of the trade and help their husband. They also could inherit this business and/or property from their husband if they passed away, and they could also make wills and decide what each of their children would inherit. Similarly women of today are also able to do so. Egyptian women enjoyed a surprising degree of financial independence. This is because women were paid equally for undertaking the same job that a man held. This is something Canadian society has yet to achieve. Although, as previously mentioned the number of women in a certain area of work was very limited. For example women were limited to domestic arts. On the contrary side Canadian women today are able to freely choose which career they want, and do not have to follow in the footsteps of their husband. Also, women are not expected to and required to take on domestic duties such as sewing as a job, they can work any job that a man works at.
