Faith Renewed
In Leah Ginsberg's article, “Faith Renewed”, the readers get to see an image of the real life of Faith Hill. She is a hard -working wife and mother just like any other American woman today. The author shows the readers how Faith Hill came from the bottom of society and is now a "Grammy Winning Glam Girl". Ginsberg shows this transition by her descriptive word choice, serious, yet informative tone, and by the many references to people who were closely associated with Faith Hill throughout these changes. Ginsberg shows us how her family secrets, sudden divorce, and troubled pregnancies have given her hard times in life and sometimes got her sidetracked from her music career, but with her big dreams, loving people there to push her toward her true talent and ambition she made it to the top. This article gives us the dominant image of Faith Hill as being like an average woman today comparable to ourselves, not just some famous star that we could never compare to. This article was published in the magazine Good Housekeeping, April 2004 issue and is aimed towards the average modern housewife who enjoys leisure reading about self improvement, heroic, and fairy tale like stories. The author is able to know who h
er audience is because a woman will more than likely be the one to pick up this sort of magazine. This magazine would have articles that many women feel they can relate themselves to. This article about Faith Hill and her struggles is a good example of the kind of things a woman would enjoy reading because the women feel they can easily relate to her after reading such a story. This article is for a simple audience because one can easily illustrate the knowledge and attitudes of the type of person/audience that will be reading it. Overall the readers will be familiar with the language and vocabulary in this article except for a few words that may need to be thought about or looked up in a dictionary to better understand or get a clearer meaning, even though the author is aware that everyone reading the article is coming from different backgrounds, she knows that any woman would enjoy reading this article because of how she shows how Faith was just an average person and with her hard work she turned into a star. The title is the first set of words that catch a reader's eye; it makes you think, what does this really mean? "Faith Renewed", the word faith can have many different meanings. In the eyes of Martin Luther, faith is God's work in us that changes us and gives new birth from God. (John 1:13). Martin Luther also says because of faith one will freely and joyfully do good to everyone. Having this thought in mind and to the best of my knowledge the title to this article means that Faith Hill has had a change in her life that God has helped her through and this change has overall made her a better person and given her a happier life. This change from God has in a sense renewed her life and made her a survivor. Faith can also be tied into this article because when you think of country singers compared to rap singers and the other types of musicians it appears to most that the country singers have more “faith” or look more at their values and beliefs than others.
