In ‘Sunday Morning’, Stevens raises the questions about other ways to think of God. The woman in the poem is debating about attending Sunday morning church, and Stevens explains that Jesus is dead; therefore there is no point in attending. Stevens does not believe in the resurrection, he believes Jesus is dead – he is putting a stop to any religious beliefs. Stevens’ dismissal of Christianity’s beliefs could offend some believers because he does not believe God to be the sole creator, as it is taught in the Bible.
