A Visit to the Salvador Dali Musuem, in St. Petersburg, Flor
The Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida features the artistic creations of the twentieth century’s most famous surrealist artists. The museum by far, does not qualify itself as a typical art museum, from the moment you walk into the building situated off the bay near downtown St. Petersburg you step into an entirely different dimension. A dimension dominated by pierced heads, and tattooed arms, a dimension of college students (USF’s St. Petersburg campus is just a few blocks down the street) attempting to get a taste of “artistic culture,” it’s a dimension of old, young, black, white, Cuban, Haitian, and tourists, you could say the environment created is quite possibly as surreal as Dali himself. I myself was quite taken back during my visit, by the quite diverse group of visitors who chose to peruse the 95 oil paintings, 100 plus watercolors and drawings, and the nearly 1,300 graphics, photographs and sculptures.
