These fish show four types of aggressive behavior: fin flare, gill flare, charging, and biting to visual stimuli. The first experiment examined the Bettas reaction to their image as shown to them in a either a magnified or normal mirror. The results of this experiment indicated that the fish will display more and longer at their regular image. The second experiment examined their reaction to another individual whose tank was placed adjacent to theirs in which there was recent or no recent mirror exposure. Results indicated that there will be more aggressive display between males when there was recent mirror exposure. Table 3 presents the data for experiment 3, and figure 1 presents the duration for fin flare for the encounter between the fish and a red or blue stimulus. There were no charges for any of the four fishes therefore not significant. Figure 1 gives a graphical interpretation of table 3 indicating that when the fish were exposed to the red stimulus there was higher duration of fin flare for fish #13 and #14 than when shown the blue stimulus. The mean duration of fin flare when exposed to the red stimulus was 111.25s to 74s for the blue stimulus with a standard deviation of 153.3s for the red and 148s for the blue.
