Speech

In the United States we as citizens have the right to freedom of speech. The question is not do we as citizens put our rights to affect but it is are we able to put them in affect. In this essay we will discuss the pros and cons of this act, what affect music has on the subject, and show the affects that it has on our country and ourselves.

Free speech, when you hear that phrase, what does it mean to you? Does it say that you can say anything you want to without being criticized for your actions? Many people in the U.S. believe this right is taken way out of context to what its is really trying say. So what is it trying to say? What really is the freedom of speech? “The right of people to express their opinions publicly without governmental interference, subject to the laws against libel, incitement to violence or rebellion, etc. Also called free speech.”(www.infoplease.com/ipd/a0448857.html). (www.ohhla.com/anonymous/eminem/marshall/the_way.mnm.txt) In this small phase of a four-minute song he takes two major incidents and made them national news again. What he is trying to say is that yes the Columbine High School incident was horrible but don’t blame that situation on the music. People are going to do something be regardless of what any music says. He also adds on about the heroin. In this part he is talking about Plano, TX and now it’s a big problem because it’s a higher class of people and there are other places in the world were the heroin situation ten times worst. Is it wrong that Emenim brings up these things in his songs? Is he just trying to sell records or is he just trying to sell albums? Another example of the music industry having an affect on freedom of speech is Rock the Vote. Where they speak on issues concerning the government and try to get other people to vote and express them selves. “Rock the Vote was founded in 199
