Although movies and TV shows are very similar, yet there are many differences that may seem insignificant, but can actually determine what you’d rather watch.

The first thing is the fact that a movie theater is very different from the place where you usually watch TV (probably a living room). A theater has a large screen the size of the wall right in front of you. With TV, you’re lucky if you can afford a 32-inch screen. A living room couch or recliner is much more comfortable than the old, dirty chairs at a theater. Also, at a theater, you sit in a large room with many other people you probably don’t know, and there’s always that one guy a row or two away from you that either won’t stop talking or laughs at everything, even when it’s not even remotely funny. Watching TV isn’t real cheap either. Cable and satellite bills are climbing higher and higher; many $30 a month or higher. Yet, there are fewer limits to your TV watching than with movies. For example, you can watch anything you want whenever you want with TV. There is only a monthly fee. But with movies, you only pay for one movie at a time, and movies are only shown at certain times.

But since the invention of VHS tapes, VCRs, and most recently DVDs, people have been enjoying movies at home. For them the environment is exactly the same as when they watch TV. This is how many people watch movies, including me. They rarely go see movies in the theater. Instead, they wait until the movie comes out on VHS or DVD and then rent them. The main reason fro this is because it’s cheaper.

These days going to see a movie can set you back $6 to $10, and that’s just in Rugby. The price to get in is $4.50; then add pop and popcorn. You end up spending around $8. Now if you go to Minot or anywhere else for that matter, the price is usually between $10 and $16. But if you just wait a couple months, the price goes down $1.50 or more. Plus, you can watch it more than once.
