This report is on a Tasmanian devil. I chose this topic because; I think that the Tasmanian devil is an interesting creatures. Also I don’t think many people really know too much about them. So im going to explain some interesting facts about this animal and you may be surprised it isn’t what you thought it was. The Tasmanian devil is the second largest of the living carnivores marsupials, after the thylacine. It is stocky built, rather like a small bear, being two to three feet in length including a one-foot tail. The Tasmanian devil weighs usually between twelve and twenty pounds but sometimes more. The female is smaller than the male always The characteristics of the Tasmanian deivl include the following it belongs to the animalia kingdom, in the phylum the Tasmanian devil is a chordata, for its class it belongs to mammalia, in its order the Tasmanian devil is marsupialia, its family is dasyuridae, its genius is sacrophilus, and its species is a harrisii. In April the male and female come together but they do not mate for nearly two weeks. During this time curiously enough, the male does not let the female out of his den. After they have mated the female turns on the male and snarls and bites whenever he approaches her. The Tasmanian devil breeds for the first time at about 2 years of age. The breeding season for the Tasmanian devil is from March-May. The pregnancy period is approximately 31 days, and then a litter of 1 - 4 is born. At about 15 weeks old the young are left in the nest or are carried on their mother's back. They are weaned at 20 weeks and remain in mother's pouch for about 3 - 4 more months. At about 8 months the babies are old enough to be on their own. Now the Tasmanian devils feed on mostly small wallabies, rat kangaroos, small mammals, birds, and lizards. Some people think that they sometimes feed on frogs and crawfish, and it hasn’t been proved wrong so they might.
