The Very Act of Being
It can be found, in today’s society, we as a culture believe in the idea of a central spirit. One can argue that this presence of spirit makes us more than just individuals, it establishes our hopes and dreams, and is the center of our success. As humans we are driven to do more than survive, we do things that fuel our inner spirit. From Sharon Butala’s divine interest in petroglyphic human art, and her desire to fulfill her love in human culture, to the great success story of Apple CEO Steve jobs and his fight to reclaim his dream. There will always be those who stand tall with success and steady with drive, as a society we will always acknowledge their story.“Stone Faces”- A short essay by Sharon Butala, is about a women who is able to appreciate the works of ancient human art. Butala takes it in her ability to witness as many pre-historic samples as possible, to fuel her love of petroglyphic artifacts. This very idea suggests Butala has a hobby, or inspiration to do more than the necessities of survival. “Then I saw a human face starring up at me, carved when, no one is sure…something unexpected gripped me” Throughout the essay Butala goes out of her way to witness more unique works of art, she makes it her pri
ority to expose her mind to the various imprints in ancient stone. “As id driven out of the yard that morning on my way to the edge of this distant city…” Sharon Butala does not understand why her immense love of petroglyphic art exists; all that matters to her is the pursuit of emotion and the satisfaction of her inner spirit. “…Or animal footprints mean is to be distracted by something that seems to me irrelevant and unimportant.” From the time Sharon Butala set eyes on her first petroglyphic subject, to her change in spiritual understanding, it is evident there is more to life than fulfilling the basics of survival. It is apparent that in order to truly appreciate our lives we must do things that satisfy the very center of our spirit. Considered an inspiration to the ever-evolving computer industry, Steven Paul Jobs, CEO of apple Computer and PIXAR Animation Studios began his marketable life in a garage established computer repair company. After realizing his love for computers was inevitable in relation to his dream of success, Steve Jobs founded the multi-million dollar corporation, Apple Computer, with the introduction of the Apple II in 1979. Jobs further developed Apple into his beliefs, ignoring all odds; he was set to develop his company into a revolution of technology. “S
