In the recent court case reviewed by the Supreme Court it was rules that the anti-sodomy law upheld in 1986 was unjust on the basis of the 14th Amendment. This states that every person has a right to privacy, and the law would go against equal protection under the law. The ruling was said to “not be unexpected” and I thought it would clearly be unjust to rule otherwise, even thought the vote was 6-3. Although many people believe that this was a step towards legalization of gay marriage, I don’t believe this is true.

The case decision has been likened to Brown v. Board of Education and other such triumphs in the face of discrimination, but this case was much different. I do not know if I agree with gay marriages, but I do believe that heterosexual marriages would be better for raising a child, just as they are better than single parents raising a child. From a child’s point of view, I think it is better to have the perspective of two parents of different sex. I also think there would be more discrimination against a child when they are growing up, which would affect them psychologically, but the discrimination would eventually end in most places as it did with issues of race.
