On Wednesday, March 31, 2004, I attended the Orange County Performing Arts Center to see the Nederlands Dans Theater perform. This was a dance performance that I will never forget. The concept that was used most when putting the pieces together was the use of time. Whether someone did something slow or fast, one never really knew how much time had passed. Each piece was completely different from one another and it was incredible to me that all of the pieces were choreographed by Jiri Kylian and composed by Dirk Haubrich.
The first piece was entitled Claude Pascal. There were four dancers that portrayed more of a theater aspect. These dancers were dressed in black and held white props. This added a very nice effect to the dance. They would have movements that went to the music. Some of the movements were sharp, while others were soft and smooth. ce the canvas side or the mirror side. Another group in this piece were the dancers who partnered. There were three couples and each did and amazing job at the movement. I could tell that they had ballet training because of their movement. The element of this piece that I found to be the best was the floor. The floor was made of some material that allowed the dancers to slide across the floor. This allowed the dancers to travel and be dragged across the floor in a way that I have never seen before. Putting the different sections of the dancers together made it very enjoyable to watch.
The second piece entitled Last Touch was very intriguing and there was something about this piece that made your mind slow down. This entire piece was done very slowly, again portraying the theme of time. At first, I thought that this piece was not going to be very entert
