Races of Middle Earth

For decades, Toliken has delighted lovers of fantasy with rich and vivid tales of the mythical Middle Earth. Middle Earth is a world filled with heroes, enemies, action, and romance. Middle Earth is the world is the world everyone wants to go to when they want to be a hero and save the world. Middle Earth is filled with scores of different races. Some races exist in harmony and others do not. All the major races of Middle Earth can be divided into six categories: Dwarves, Ents Hobbits, Men, Orcs, and Elves.

Dwarves are mostly characterized by their short stature and long beards. Unlike Elves and Men, Dwarves are not children of Ilùvatar; instead they are created by Aule. Dwarves are the descendants from the eldest of the Seven Fathers, Durin the Deathless. Dwarves were mortal and lived around 250 years. Unlike most other races Dwarves generally kept to themselves and to “their halls of stone.” Dwarves were smiths by profession. They are known for mining and stoneworking, and for mining and working with metals. They preferred working with copper and iron, and later wrought gold, silver, and mithril. Some of the most notable Dwarves include Gimli, son of Gloin, that accompanied the fellowship and Balin, son of F

Hobbits are very similar to Dwarves in that they never get very tall. Some of the tallest Hobbits never grew much more than four feet. Hobbits are characterized by their short stature and extremely hairy feet. Hobbits are a mortal race and very closely related to Men. The Hobbits are responsible for founding the Shire in III 1601. Hobbits are a very peaceful race and dislike changes and excitement. Hobbits are also known for their immense appetites and eat constantly. Some of the most famous Hobbits include Bilbo Baggins for finding the One Ring and keeping it for many years and increasing his life span. His cousin Frodo Baggins is probably the most famous Hobbit of all. He is responsible for the destruction of the One Ring. He was accompanied on his quest by his closest companions Samwise Gamgee, Meriadioc Brandybuck, and Peregrin Took, also Hobbits.

Men are the youngest race of Middle Earth. Men are also the children of Ilùvatar, given life after the Elves. Men are also of course mortal. Men possess the Gift of Men, which is Death. They leave the world after an allotted amount of time and actually go beyond it. Men were considered weak by most of the other races of Middle Earth. Men were known to given into corruption and generally bend to the will of evil. Some of the most famous Men include Boromir, who accompanied the fellowship, Faramir, who is responsible for saving Gondor, and Lady Eowyn for her courage and helping to bring about the end
