Within these two works of literature there are many characters that grow and gain wisdom through the occurrences of their lives. The main character of The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby, underwent many hardships throughout his life, which resulted in him becoming a better person who was thriving for a better life. The character of Hamlet, with the tragic play Hamlet, is a good person. However his good deeds were often of the violent sort. Both Hamlet and Gatsby display the mean of William Saroyan’s statement.
