Happiness in Life Horse Dealers
“There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved” - George Sand. This famous quote is found self evident in the following short stories; “The Lady with the Dog”, “Horse Dealer’s Daughter” and “In the Life”. Each author has fully expressed the ideals of romantic love as we know it. Indeed love is like the sun coming out of the clouds and warming your soul consequently it has many risks, joys and ironies.Nevertheless, as seen in “The Lady with the Dog” by Anton Chekhov romance takes the role of a relationship that should not be. Dmitri Dmitritch Gurov a married middle aged man and Anna Sergeyevna a young married lady. Thus this is a very risky affair that these two individuals. Mr. Gurov had been unfaithful to his wife for awhile and considered woman “the lower race” (401); I find this ironic in the fact that Gurov falls in love with another married woman, Mrs. Sergeyevna. This was a secretly kept relationship; Mrs. Sergeyevna had come to Moscow to visit Mr. Gurov on several occasions that she had lied to her husband for these elongated trips.
