The heart is a hollow muscular organ. It is located between the lungs in approximately in the middle of the chest. It is positioned in the thoracic cavity between the sternum and the vertebrae. It was placed there meticulously so that it can be compressed or squeezed in case of emergency. The heart is protected in the front by the ribs. Each adult person’s heart is about the same size or a little bigger than their fist weighing about nine to eleven ounces. A newborn baby’s heart weighs about two thirds an ounce.
