My Wreck
As a senior in high school, I didn’t think anything could happen to me. August 28, 2003 started off as any other day. During my first two periods, everything remained normal. As usual, my friends and I went to lunch after school. We discussed where we wanted to go and I suggested Subway. Leaving school, we were on our way. Little did I know, a couple of miles down the road, I would have my first car wreck. My boyfriend and another friend were in a car in front of me as we left the school. The main road had been backed up because of construction, so we decided to take the back roads. These long winding roads helped us get there faster, but we couldn’t have ever guessed something of great gloom would ruin my whole week. As we made our way to the intersection to cross the highway, my boyfriend got in the wrong lane. Stopping in the middle of the road, I tried to let him get back in front of me. He wouldn’t so I stopped at the red light. Traffic seemed to be backed up like cars parked at a concert. The stoplight having turned green, the cars started going and I found myself crossing the highway. The smell of fresh tar, sounds of honking horns, sight of hurried drivers, and the cold air comin
soon realized it would be hard to get into Subway’s parking lot. Turning on my blinker, I stopped to wait for the traffic to pass so I could turn into the lot. A man in a pretty, dark blue truck backed up a little and waved me through. Many people came out of the nearby stores to help. One lady came out of a store and asked if I wanted her to call the police for me. I told her yes. By now, the lady had rolled down her window a little, and I realized she was an elderly woman. She seemed to be scared and Robin, my boyfriend and I asked her if she was alright. She said no. Over and over she said she wasn’t alright. Informing us that she had diabetes, we quickly realized something must have been wrong with her sugar level. My boyfriend called an ambulance. The woman then asked us to call her daughter. Her daughters’ phone line was busy, so the woman just sat in her car for the longest time. Somebody else tried to call her daughter and got her on the phone. Her daughter came up to the accident upset, rude and mean to me. After cussing me, the policeman told her that he was not going to have any of that kind of behavior. When that was all over, I cried. I couldn’t take it anymore. a wrecker and spend that money. Being shaken up badly, I couldn’t he
