Abraham Lincoln delivered “The Gettysburg Address”, one of his greatest speeches, at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery in 1863. Lincoln speaks of the civil war in his speech. He talks about how the young men and women devoted their lives to our nation for us. In his speech he uses very religious terms to describe what he is saying. He uses such words as consecrated, which means sacred, hallow, which means holy and he uses the word dedicate which can be used religiously to mean “to devote to the worship of a divine being”, the divine being in this case is God. Lincoln speaks as if he were under the influence of God. He speaks as if he were a very holy and humble man. Lincoln also uses a bit of allusion in the Gettysburg Address. “F

Our three presidents who served our country at all different times rose to the occasion of delivering speeches that would touch our heart and soul. They served our nation the best that they could. They led the United States of America to become a powerful and leading nation. Lincoln used the influence of God to lead us out of the time of the Civil War, Franklin D. Roosevelt used his force and persuasiveness to help bring our nation out of defeat and John F. Kennedy helped our country realize how powerful and strong we really are. We now can see how the three presidential speeches all dealing with different matters was written. All three of the speeches had many influences from either being angry to becoming peaceful and even some very strong influences from God himself. Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and John Fitzgerald Kennedy each delivered a speech where the style of writing reflected the occasion for which it was written.
