Conjoined Twins: A Questionable Sacrifice
The death of a child is an extremely difficult tragedy for any person to face. But, would any human sacrifice one child to save the other? This is a case doctors’ and parents need to agree upon when conjoined twins, named Jodie and Mary were born. Give Jodie a chance to live, and depose of Mary. Some point in the conjoined twins life could Mary potentially be harmful to Jodie. If the separation of the twins is occurred Jodie could have the opportunity of living a better life. By all means separate the twins and at least attempt to save one of the two. Giving Jodie a chance to live is the best possible solution to do for the conjoined twins. If the operation does not occur, both Jodie and Mary could die. Why should Jodie have to suffer, because
If separation doesn’t happen, what could that result in? Death. For both Jodie and Mary. “Mary has no effective heart, no functioning lungs and a brain her doctors describe as ‘very, very primitive.’ The infant is alive only because she is attached to her sister Jodie, whom the doctors term ‘bright and alert,’ supplies Mary with oxygenated blood from her own heart and lungs” (MacLean’s) Jodie can not provide Mary enough energy to keep both of them alive for a long period of time. Jodie maybe a life support system for Mary now, but eventually Mary could harm Jodie causing them to both too expire. It would have been morally and ethically wrong to let both Jodie and Mary die.
