Tuesdays With Morrie

“Tuesdays With Morrie” is a touching story about the author Mitch Albom’s relationship with his college professor Morrie Schwartz. Albom and Schwartz have lost touch after Albom had graduated from Brandeis University more then 16 years ago. While flipping through the television stations Albom hears Ted Koppel from the show “Nightline” speaking to Morrie about what it was like to die from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease). At this point Mitch Albom is ashamed he lost touch with his professor and horrified of the pain he is going through while coping with this disease. Right away, Albom called his professor, flew to Boston for a reunion, and set up a weekly schedule to visit Morrie for what would be Albom’s “final class”. These weekly visits brought back many joyful memories for both Mitch and Morrie, almost reigniting their loving teacher-student relationship, while simultaneously Morrie teaches his final “class”: the meaning of life.

Morrie was a man who loved to dance and found great satisfaction and joy in music. I believe if Morrie were an entrepreneur he would have started a business along the lines of a record label and recording studio. He would chose to be a part of the music

I think “Tuesdays with Morrie” became a #1 New York Times Bestseller because of just how real the story is. The book is beautifully written with great clarity and wisdom. There is no reading between the lines with this book, everything is right in front of you, in clear black and white. But the most touching part of this book is, it makes you look at life differently after you have completed reading it. It opens a new place in your heart and brain just by seeing the way that Morrie would deal with his own situations and help Mitch Albom with his problems in life as well. Just the way Morrie would think and elaborate on any situation makes this book a must read for anyone. On top of how well the book was written and how amazing the story of Morrie Schwartz is, the book was optioned for a movie in May of 1999 by none other then talk show host Oprah Winfrey. This of course only adding to the popularity of the book, but I think the main reason this book became a #1 New York Times Bestseller was because of the great joy, satisfaction and warmth people obtain and keep

In conclusion, “Tuesdays With Morrie” was a great book which nearly had me in tears by the time I finished. I also believe it takes two very special people to put a book together like this, and that is the main drive behind writing and contributing to a #1 New York Times Best Seller. Morrie Schwartz was obviously a great man, both intellectually and physically, who had an impact on many peoples lives who he was involved in. Also, the author can’t be forgotten, Mitch Albom. He too contributes very much to this book, amongst other things. Such as his community and his religion. Mitch is a prominent figure and very involved in his religion in and around his community. He currently resides in Cherry Hill, NJ where he attends a Jewish temple, Temple Bethshalom and plays a great role in being part of the local society. Mitch also gets frequent requests from the television show Sports Center for doing commentaries for them. Mitch Albom is a gifted author, but with material like this, he has no choice other then to create an amazing book, for all to enjoy.
