In 1908 his mom died of cancer. C. S. Lewis and his brother Warren were sent to the Wynyard School in England. In 1917, he enlisted in the Army and fought in World War I. He was wounded in battle and saw many of his friends die. When he came back from the war, he continued his studies at college. He graduated from college in 1922. He became a professor at Magdalen College in 1925. C.S Lewis did not get married until he was 59 years old. His wife died soon after they were married. C.S. Lewis had no children of his own.

C.S. Lewis was an atheist as a young man. During the war, he saw lots of his friends die, including his best friend. After the war, he became a Christian. Many people consider him to be one of the best Christian writers of all time. Even though C.S. Lewis was not a Roman Catholic, his books are great for any Catholic to read. C. S. Lewis died in1963.

I think some of the ideas in the book "Out of the Silent Planet" come right from C.S. Lewis' life.

C.S. Lewis was a professor at the University of Cambridge. He taught medieval and Renaissance English literature. He was a well known author during his life. He even had a part-time Christian radio show during World War II. Even though his writing was popular, I think he wrote because he wanted to, not because he had to.

The scientists have discovered a way to travel back and forth from Mars. They want to take over the planet. Weston and Devine bring Ransom to Mars to trade him to the Martians. Ransom is terrified when they land and manages to escape from the two evil scientists. He is lost in the Martian wildness until he comes across a member of one of the three intelligent species on mars, a Hross. Using his skills in philology, Ransom is able to make conversation with the creature. The creature becomes Ransom's friend and brings him back to his village to live. Over the course of months, Ransom becomes fluent in "Old Solar" which is the language spoken on Mars. He is also taught a basic catechism of the theology of the Martians. Eventually, Ransom meets the Martian "Oyarsa", the powerful angel that is responsible for Malacandra. Ransom learns that all the planets, including Earth, have an Oyarsa. Earth's Oyarsa is refered to as the "bent" one, because the Martians don't have a word for Evil. Earth is refered to as the "Silent
