Internet should not be Censored

The internet is a widely used and extremely beneficial resource. People of all ages use the internet to find information for research, news, and entertainment. The internet also makes it possible for anyone to voice their opinions, thoughts, and ideas. It provides a way for people to communicate with others from all over the world. The problem with so much information being accessible to so many people, is that some of it might be inappropriate for children. Many people feel that the government should regulate the information and material that is available on the internet.

I do not agree with censorship of the internet. The regulation of information on the internet takes away people’s right to free speech, which violates the First Amendment. Any material should be allowed on the internet because it is up to each individual to decide whether or not to view it. “The Internet is something that most of us buy access to and which we then choose to surf on our own” (Marrin, Witneyer, and Gleser). People have control over the material they and their children can access. It is the parent’s responsibility to control and limit their children’s access to the internet, not the government.
