The story Hunters in the Snow, by Tobias Wolff is an awkward story about three friends who hang out together and display a weird type of friendship. Frank, Tub and Kenny are the main characters which the story takes place around. The guys’ relationship consisted of constantly talking about each other, making threatening comments, and envy and hatred to a minimum. It’s quoted that Wolff’s work has a certain fundamental religious nature, in which this story is based around the “Golden Rule”. Frank and Tub intentionally kill Kenny, because he treated them like awful so they neglected Kenny in his dying bed. This story shows the real world aspect of men doing heinous things to get back at people, in this case a friend in need.
In male bonding men are self-absorbers to certain a certain extent then there actions are unpredictable. In the beginning Kenny had exposed a very sensitive side of Frank’s life. Kenny also was constantly making fat jokes about Tub. Instead of solving the problem right there Frank and Tub just took the criticism and swallowed it. So while hunting Kenny got impatient about not finding any deer so he started shooting at everything he saw. In the process he shoots a dog and then turned and briefly glanced at Tub, who shot him. Tub made the comment “I had to,’ and “He made me.” This made it seem like Tub was looking for a reason to do something harmful to Kenny.
