Fasting
People have been fasting since the time of Adam. Jesus taught usfasting means to go without food or drink and when fast we must concentrate on spiritual matters. Prayer is a very important part of fasting - we should start and stop our fasts with prayer and we should substitute our eating that we would have done with prayer and with reading our scriptures. When we fast we should fast with a specific purpose. An example of this can be found in Mosiah 27:22-23. One Sunday a month we observe a “fast Sunday” on this day we skip two meals and donate the value of the meals we have not eaten to the fast offerings. This is then adminstered to provide for our needy brothers and sisters through the proper priesthood authority.
