Gandhi Movie Essay

The movie on Gandhi is based on his goals, works, his looks, and his beliefs. The movie begins in South Africa and ends in India. He was the hero of millions of people in India. Throughout the whole movie, Gandhi is fighting for equal rights of Indians in India. Also fights for freedom from British.

By late nineteenth century, British were in South Africa trying to take over South Africa. White minority ruled the colored majority in Africa as well as India. Approximately sixty five thousands Indians lived in South Africa. Some Indians were bought to Africa as slaves, and others came as serfs. Colored majority were not given equal rights, especially to Indians. Mohandas Gandhi went to Africa to fight for Indians rights. Gandhi arrived in South Africa in Natal. He bought a first class ticket to travel around Africa. A white passenger complained to the person in charged of that compartment to get rid of colored man. Gandhi immediately refused to leave the train. At the next train station, Gandhi was thrown out of the train with no respect. It was a cold night, but poor Gandhi could not even ask for his luggage because British at the station were holding it. That night he shivered and asked himself a question. “

However, there were some inadequate things in the movie. The movie never mentioned anything about Gandhi’s sons. He had four sons. According to Fisher, he had four sons. Also Kasturbai who was his wife died in prison, not at her home. Today in the world Gandhi is still known. He is known for his work not just in India, but as well as in Africa. His aim was to gain independence of India, but without violence. Many people worshiped bapu in India because he was the one that open the door to Independence for the Indians in India.

At last the British did give up India after changing laws, and killing hundreds. Also British impacted Hindus and Moslems by them wanting to divide. As a result two countries were formed in 1947 and were free. They were India and Pakistan. Moslems migrated into Pakistan and Hindus stayed in India. After all Pakistan would have never gained its independence if India never did. People that say they are from Pakistan are not. The truth is they are from India. It’s because Pakistan was born from India so therefore India is the mother country of Pakistan. Even today there are still riots between Moslems and Hindus over in India and Pakistan. It may never end, unless one more Gandhi takes a birth in India and tries to unite the people.

At the age of sixty one he led seventy eight men and women to Dandi. It was a long walk about two hundred miles far from satyagrahe ashram. When they arrived there this was the first step against the British that did not involve violence. Then salt laws were defined by Gandhi. It was sold illegally, and produced illegally. All over India the war of Independence had begun. The British responded with beatings and thousands arrested. Eventually they were running out of space in prison also. Gandhi and other congress leaders were arrested with him, such as Nehru. Eventually all leaders were freed. The Parliament called Gandhi to discus a possible Independence of India. The British created animosity between Hindus and Moslems to keep the Indians weak. Glenn Alan Cheney told us, “A British police chief in Bombay said that by paying Moslems to throw a dead cow into a temple, or Hindus to throw a dead pig into a mosque.” By that time World War II had ended. India’s official Independence was August 15, 1947. Gandhi asked the leaders of India to choose the president of India. The majority of
